#AlstonLecture
The Syracuse University Department of Philosophy is excited to welcome Jane Friedman (NYU) to deliver this year's Alston Lecture. Friedman will deliver a talk entitled, "Acquisition in Inquiry."
Abstract: In many ways, acquisition is at the heart of inquiry. Whether or not aiming to acquire epistemic goods like knowledge or understanding is 'constitutive’ of inquiry, inquirers are certainly often or even typically aiming or trying to acquire these sorts of epistemic goods. This talk is about how much this feature of inquiry can tell us about the practice of inquiry and its success conditions. Not as much as we might have hoped, I’ll argue.
