Join us for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month keynote event! Syracuse University playwright and College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) faculty member Zizi Majid will moderate a fireside chat with Northeastern University School of Law professor Margaret Woo and retired Syracuse University VPA art professor emeritus Stephen Zaima. Professor Woo will discuss her family memoir, "City of Jade Trees," about four generations of Chinese Americans, from early sojourners during the Exclusion Era to World War II Flying Tiger veteran father to her own story as a pioneer Asian American law professor. Professor Zaima, son of World War II Japanese American Heart Mountain internment camp prisoners and whose father fought in the 442nd Regiment, will discuss his recent work about Hiroshima, his grandmother's birthplace, the 442nd Regiment and the "no-no boys." His parents' wedding was organized by famed activist Yuri Kochiyama.
After this fireside chat, Professor Woo and Professor Zaima will conduct parallel workshops on telling hard stories in text and image, respectively. Dinner will also be served.
This event is in collaboration with the Syracuse University Art Museum, the College of Visual and Performing Arts and Belonging and Student Success. All are welcome. Please RSVP through 'Cuse Activities.
