Creative Assessments: Podcasts, Zines, Workshops, & More!

This session explores alternative modalities for assessing student learning by proposing creative options rather than a final paper or exam. We’ll talk about why using creative assessments allows students to demonstrate their learning in ways that best fit their learning style, how to ensure rigorous assessment practices when engaging creative modalities, and how to set students up for success in creative assessments. We’ll look at examples such as podcasts, zines, workshops, and more. Participants attending are encouraged to bring instructions for a traditional assessment - such as an exam or paper rubric - that can be adapted to a creative modality. Participants in this workshop can expect to leave with an outline for how to implement creative assessments in their courses.
