Image of Practicing the Public Humanities: A Conversation with James Shapiro

Join us for a thought-provoking conversation about the arc of Prof. Shapiro’s extraordinary career as a successful scholar and public intellectual, the opportunities and challenges for academics in the public realm, and current issues such as anti-Semitism and the ongoing threats to higher education.

James Shapiro is Professor of English and Comparative Literature, Columbia University. He is one of the world’s foremost authorities on William Shakespeare, an acclaimed public intellectual and a widely-read author of nine compelling books. Most recently he has consulted on the Broadway production of Othello with Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, and on the current production of Twelfth Night with Lupita Nyong’o at Central Park’s Delacorte Theater Seating.
