Join the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month planning committee for a collaborative event with the Barner-McDuffie House and the Black Student Union to talk about intersectionality, culture and history as it relates to solidarity and unity in action.

This event will feature a variety of panelists who are experts in intersectionality, cultural heritage studies and activism, including:

  • Dr. Farha Ternikar: Professor in sociology and the director of gender, women and sexuality studies at Le Moyne College; author of "Intersectionality and the Muslim South Asian Middle Class: Beyond Hijab and Halal" and "Biryani and the Golden Girls."
  • Dr. Arnisson Andre Ortega: Associate professor of geography and the environment at Syracuse University; current projects include collaborative decolonial cartography with Indigenous communities in the Philippines and Native Alaskan-Filipinx solidarities and transpacific belonging in Alaska.
  • Dr. RJ Santander Malabanan: Syracuse University instructor in Asian/Asian American studies, proud first-generation educator of Filipino descent, and Spanish linguistics and education teacher.
